Tim Verpoorten passed away today. He was one of the first Mac podcasters and one of the founding fathers of the Mac Roundtable. More importantly he was our friend, and he loved the community he built with all of you. We wanted to give you a little bit of Tim through a short slideshow of photos of him at Macworld in 2010 and 2011. Please feel free to share your experiences with Tim in the comments.

  2. As a listener I am going to miss Tim. I wish I could say I knew him or met him, but I did not. He was always someone I wanted to meet. The fact I did not is my lost. I am grateful though that I still have the opportunity to hear his words again.

  3. I’ll miss him. I know he hasn’t podcasted for some time but his voice will always be with me.
He came on the MyMac podcast not so very long ago to help me by standing in for Guy.
He helped me when I first started podding and for that assistance I’ll be forever greatful.
He helped and helped and helped many many people.
My thoughts and best wishes go to his family.
    RIP Tim.

  4. Tim was my introduction to Mac Podcasts and through him to the wider world. He was very generous with his time and his knowledge and helped me on numerous occasions. From one grandfather to another – he will be missed.

  5. You may not know the face, but you definitely know the voice if you were a fan of Mac podcasting as it came into its own. Tim Verpoorten delivered an amazing volume of quality hardware and software commentary through The MacReviewCast as well as his blog, SurfBits.

Through his format of inviting guest reviewers to contribute to the show, Tim helped launch or facilitate the careers of may of the Mac podcasters you enjoy today.

We will miss his knowledge and his good nature every time the Mac Roundtable convenes.

    R.I.P. Tim…

  7. I’m not one of the cool kids but I do have a slight presence in the mac roundtable universe as OzRose. I had never traveled internationally but was determined to go to Macworld 2010. Was pretty much overwhelmed by the experience but one of the many highlights was meeting Tim. At the Cirque du Mac I’m feeling dazed and confused. Tim spotted me and insisted I join his already crowded table. He made everyone squish to let me in. His aura was peaceful and loving. A gentle giant.

  9. Tim,

He was my friend, he was my consultant, my teacher and above all….he was a smart gentle man with much patience and kindness. The world is a lonelier place without him. Rest easy my friend.

  10. Tim’s podcast was one of the first I ever listened to. He introduced me to so many great Mac apps and podcasts. His gentle manner and undeniable enthusiasm made him the “Mr. Rogers” of Mac podcasting. He will be deeply missed.

  12. Tim was one of my favourite podcasters, had a chance to meet him at the Macworld I attended – a true gentleman. So many podcasters have been influenced or coached by him – as a result, his voice will live on through Alison, MacSparky and so many others. God Bless.

  13. My sincerest condolences to Tim’s family. I knew Tim only by his voice on my iPod as a regular follower of MacReviewCast and the Mac RoundTable while he was an active podcaster. I have missed his honest, respectful comments, reviews and recommendations. He was a real gentleman with the highest integrity. Thank you, Tim, for a job well done. You are appreciated. Rest in peace my friend.

  15. A wise and gentle voice in a community that I only knew through my ears. He leaves a silence which must be shared for a while and then broken gently and wisely by those who can follow the example that he set. God bless you, Tim; you are still with us in many ways.

  17. Tim’s podcast was a primary reason I moved to the Mac from a PC. He had a huge amount of knowledge and seemed to want to help every one. I will miss Tim & my prayers are with his family and everyone close to him.

  20. Tim was one of my favorite podcasters. I too was a listener to The Mac Reviewcast when it first began and missed Tim’s voice and insight when he stepped away from the microphone. I was saddened by his passing but based on his character, I would imagine he is survived by a wonderful and loving family who will carry on his integrity and gift of caring for others.

  21. When I switched to Mac in 2005 I soon found Tim and he was terrific guide. Almost felt like I was having a personal education session each week when I listened to his podcast. I will never forget “it only does one thing and does it well”.

  22. The MacReview Cast was one of the first podcasts I subscribed to. And I tried to listen to it weekly. The reason for that was, of course, Tim’s great personality. He had a way of making you feel he was talking to you in a warm, friendly way.
I miss his show, and I miss his voice. God bless him. May he rest in peace. His family was fortunate to have him.

  23. I just found out this news. i stopped listening back in 2006 when my computer broke and never got back into listening to the show. I never met Tim but i did submit reviews which he talked about on the show. I loved listening and I’m sorry he’s gone.
