Apple is purely marketing on this one. They can get much better performance using desicrete grpahics for about the smae cost. Part of their problem is they went to Intel.
UH..higher resolutions(HD) require more grpahics memory and also more grpahics bandwidth. The integrated graphics DO siphon off system performance. If you want benchmarks with the gms series just google it. The results are very easy to find. With Apple now using a PC architecture Apple is not going to be able to market their way out of a technically bad decision. Marketing it’s a great decision…technically it’s a poor one.

I couldn’t disagree more about the price of the Mac Mini. Apple stated that one of the main reasons they switched over to Intel. Since then they have come out with 3 new products and the prices have either remained the same or gone up. So i look at this solely from what Apple has said…not is it worth it. I have been a Mac user since 1988 and have never used a PC. Of course I think all of there products are worth it. If you say you are switching to intel because of the cost…bare that in mind when you make that switch!

My experience of Thunderbird was in windows and linux. I have just switched to Mac last month. Thunderbird is very similar to mail.app. You can setup multiple accounts and use rules and filters but Thunderbird only likes to use one outgoing SMTP server but more can be setup. It uses the same name for the description of the server and when setting up the accounts you have to remember what order you set up the smtp accounts and pick from the list with all the same smtp name accounts. Confusing and an pain but other than that it is worth a try. Also, it keeps all email in seperate files and not in one huge database.

Hello Gentlemen!
Really enjoy your roundtable podcast.
In regards to whether the new Mac mini is “worth” the extra cost?
Hell yeah!
I purchased the Mac mini “classic” the day it was announced and went with the higher end 1.4 GHz model.
On top of the base price, I paid to upgrade the ram to 512MB (before it was standard) and paid to add the AirPort card (without bluetooth mind you) but opted not to go with the DVD burner.
In total the machine without keyboard and mouse was $717.
Now I could get all that PLUS a DVD burner, bluetooth, frontrow and remote and … a much faster processor for only $799. Not to mention the extra USB ports, the line in, the ability to upgrade past 1 gig RAM and (I know this is petty) a graphics card that supports the cool drag and drop effects on the dashboard! On the other hand there’s no modem (never used) and the keyboard/mouse is now $20 more.
So is the new Mac mini worth it? Sure is — as long as you don’t forget the hidden costs of display and keyboard/mouse combo.
Thanks and keep up the great work.

What does it take to be a guest on the Mac Roundtable?

I wonder why no one post comments? Is it because it is by far the best podcast out there? Probably so. When you take the 4 out of the top 5 podcasts and put them together you get an awesome podcast.
