Music industries pressure to have increased or variable pricing on iTunes. The Apple iPhone specs from Kevin Rose, what were our thoughts and reactions. Apple’s purchase of Proximity, is Apple making a bigger play for Hollywood and does it mean anything for their iTunes, movie and iTV ambitions? Join hosts Steve Stanger from the The Mac Attack, Tim Verpoorten from MacReviewcast, Adam Christianson from the MacCast and Joseph Nilo from Some old podcast.

Nice show again guys. 1 point tho; the Skype noise from someones event sounds was annoying at first and quickly got worse from there.
Maybe you could disable the Skype sounds when you’re recording?

Another good show. But like midbach said, disable those Skype sounds because you all are more professional than that.

I don’t use Skype much. So was wondering if the sound was some sort of viral Podcast competition. I was considering counting the sound effects and sending the result in an Email to the Mac Roundtable team. 🙂 That would be a clever idea for a Podcast competition! Thanks for the show – it’s fantastic.

We tried producing the show a little differently this week and didn’t realize that the Skype sounds were being recorded from one of the computers.

Apple bought Proximity because Avid has a new product called Interplay. Look it up, they are very similar.
Media 100 is no longer a real player in non-linear editing. FCP is much better and has a much much larger user base.
Avid has both Mac and Windows software only versions of their products, like FCP. You don’t have to buy their hardware to use it.

Oh so thats where the Skype noises came from! Whilst I was listening to the podcast I was trying to figure our why Skype was alerting me and it was not even running!

I have a video iPod linked via a Mercedes iPod Interface kit to the COMAND system in my car. Apart from a low volume issue, which I believe is widely documented, the setup works well.
However, the software does not include the podcast downloads unless I put them in a special playlist.
Also, as the car has two flat screens linked to the COMAND which play DVD’s, I wonder why the iPod interface cannot play the full length movies on the iPod.
Who makes and updates the software on these car kits? Surely this is an area where the utilisation of iPods could be further expanded. Steve Jobs claims some 70% of new US cars can be fitted with such integrated systems.

Great podcasts. I was delighted to hear the comments on the new iPhone. I started with PDA’s years ago (Microwriter Agenda, Newton, Palm etc.) I am currently tempted by the Palm Treo, but have been badly burned by serious syncing issues with my Palm Tungsten T5. It has never successfully synchronised with .Mac, Address Book and iCal. I have even bought Missing Sync to try and improve matters. I think that until Apple get in to this field of integration of PDA, phone and media we are not going to get a well designed all-in-one product.
