Concerning widgets, I am with Tim. I rarely launch them, but I do use Konfabulator instead for my local weather and my day planner.

The discussion regarding ways of acquiring MS Windows as an OEM product was interesting.
Based on my past experience I can tell you that the major difference between having a Microsoft retail version of Windows and an OEM version is that, if ANYTHING goes wrong, Microsoft will steadfastly refuse to help you if you have an OEM version.

You talk about why there aren’t Apple computers in ordenary computer stores, the reasson being is that Apple demands som space to their products.
Here in Denmark, Copenhagen a computer store would love to sell macs, but they didn’t had the space to have the Apple computer as Apple demanded the computers needs in teh store.
that could be the reason.

My take on the big box vs. local retailer issue is perhaps more cynical than you were expressing on the show but I think it’s true if you look around. Simply put all across America mom and pop stores are going extinct. Despite frequently worse service and prices that are often not much lower than mom and pop stores the public seems to have a love affair with all things big box. Whether it’s local coffee shops, record/video stores, clothing or computer stores they are all being slowly destroyed by the likes of Target, Wal-Mart and Best Buy. Pretty soon it’s going to be the only choice for many people so let’s hope Apple can provide a good experience. To do this they’ll probably have to offer cash incentives to the sales people at these stores, which is a big reason that the salesmen at Best Buy etc. tend to push certain PC lines and used to push people away from Macs so aggressively.

Guys, your show never disappoints. Awesome! It is a blast to hear all of you give your insight. I think that the Macs in BestBuy is a good thing and a bad thing..good for Mac users..we have more stores to sell items to us. It really is a bad thing. I already hear many PC sales reps telling customers that Macs dont have any software and only a PC is the way to go. I really hope I am wrong, but I have a feeling history will repeat itself.

I thoroughly enjoy the knowledgeable discussion of “everything mac”. Fantastic show from the fantastic four…. 🙂 I am a long time mac user since the mid-eighties but not much of a music person so I dont own an iPod. Your discussion raised the issue of an alternative to the video ipod. That would have to be the PSP by Sony. I don’t play many games but I use the PSP to watch movies(UMD format), surf the web, do email, listen to pod casts either as streamed audio(RSS feed) or downloaded, store photos, store music (the little I do have). The iPod video just does not compete in this area. With wireless connectivity, AAC and h.264 support and the previous features listed the PSP is already where the video iPod needs to go. So take it from a longtime MacAddict user from the beginning days of the mac…the video iPod could learn a thing or two from the PSP… Perhaps they will in the next generation video iPod.
